Need Replacement Windows?

Making your windows more energy efficient is one way that you can cut back on the cost of heating and maintaining your home. Things like bathroom remodeling and replacement wondows will increase the value of your house. If you live in an older home you'll most likely have older windows that need to have some repairs or that need to be replaced entirely.  You don't need replacement windows in your home.  Install windows one or two at a time and make your repairs, or add the new window so that you start taking steps towards energy efficiency.

Repair the Old or Replace With New?

Whether you repair your existing windows or get replacement windows will depend on your budget and the condition of the windows:

• When you install windows make sure that you choose ones that are high performance and are double paned.
• Add caulking to the seal around your old windows to keep warm air from escaping and cold air from entering.  Caulking is easy to use and inexpensive to buy.
• Add new weather stripping around old windows to aid in the insulation of your home.
• Hang heavy curtains over your windows during the winter months to insulate your home.

Should you decide to replace your old windows with new ones you'll want to hire someone to do the job for you.  Get several estimates before deciding on one contractor since prices will vary.  Buying new windows is a good solution if your home is over fifteen years old and you're finding that your energy bills are much too high.
